In March 2025, Inverted State of Mind will head to Shambala Gatherings in Sweden to bring forth a week of breathwork, yoga, and mind and body exploration led by Miles Mortensen and Matt Gasmovic.
Yoga, in all its facets, strives to bring us closer to both creation and dissolution. It is only in becoming somebody that we can become nobody, that we can move towards unity with creation. It is in becoming no body, no thought, no one that we can fully embrace our understanding of our humanness and step into the expansion of our deepest and most heartfelt truths.
It is in starting with our breath and body that we can begin to start to tune our mind, creating an inner and outer environment of reality that facilitates that of abundance, love, freedom, integrity, and humility.
Each day in the week is cultivated to mirror these qualities and ethos by providing the opportunity to move deep through practices of breath work, meditation, yoga, workshops, forest walks, Satsang, and cold immersions, alongside soaking it all up in a floating sauna or sat around a bonfire.
It’s a week to step out of what is known in the day-to-day, deconstructing bonds and loops and dissolve into possibility and creation.
STAY
Our beautiful venue is an intimate yoga community and retreat centre in the middle of the Swedish forest. 100% of all the energy we use comes from renewable sources, and the majority of our food is organic and locally, sustainably sourced.
The project started in 2005, out of a vision to live in communion with nature and dedicated to a life of community and yoga. What once was an artist community of yogis simply living in nature, slowly, throughout the years, opened its doors to those that wished to experience this way of living in the form of retreats.
The dense forests of Bergslagen around Skinnskatteberg are a fantastic place to encounter the very best of Sweden’s wildlife. Other than enjoying its abundant nature, trees and plants, you can also find the magnificent ”king of the Swedish forest”, moose – otherwise known as elk – in its natural habitat, and the many lakes and watercourses are home to beavers too. The surrounding area has also proven to be one of the best regions in Sweden to see other wildlife such as wolves, bears, lynx and owls.
EAT
The food is delicious, abundant, and wholesome. It’s vegan, Ayurvedic-based, mainly organic and gluten-free and we will often eat out on the sunny deck overlooking the lake.
The kitchen is at the heart of everything here, using the best possible ingredients and taking care of food combinations to ensure that you are nourished and energised throughout the retreat. We are passionate about providing food that is delicious to eat, look at and feel.
“I’ve had the good fortune to experience Shambala many times as I shared Bhakti.
The moment I would arrive I felt the vibrant nature greeting me, supporting us in a sacred embrace to dive deep into our hearts.
Such a magical place.
And the staff in beautiful alignment with what the land offers.
A place for healing, reconnection, inspiration, Love.”
“I Love this place, I have returned here many times each summer for 10 years. They have a way of making everyone feel at home and welcomed. Here I can sink into a healthy, balanced and fun daily routine. And for me it’s important to have the balance between seeing all of the inspiring people here, but also having alone time and quietude, which I find in the forest, lake, sauna, tipi, in the silent mornings, in my room or in a yoga class. I feel recharged and happy when I’m here and I’m so glad these kind of retreat centres exist!”
“Amazing experience!! Beautiful nature around Shambala. Yoga there was outstanding!! Vegan Food incredible tasty!! Great and friendly community of people. If you suffer from stress, this is ideal place to be!”

TEACHER’S BIO
Miles Mortensen
Miles’ curiosity in developing a holistic approach to a sustainable Yoga practice has led him to explore various training modalities. Although his primary practice has always been Yoga, he has been interested in exploring and experiencing the body and its capabilities in different ways and how to feed these into one’s Yoga practice. Since then, he has fallen in love with hand balancing and developed a keen interest in callisthenics and strength training.
Miles completed his initial 200-HR training in the Ashtanga-Vinyasa system and over 250-HRs in the Rocket Vinyasa system. His teaching encompasses the structures and disciplines of these Yoga systems while creating a playground of exploration, weaving in different influences of inspiration from other practices.
Outside of his Yoga practice, Miles has trained with hand balancers such as Yuval Ayalon (@yuvalonhands), Andrii Bondarenko (@andriibonadrenko, Cirque du Soleil), Sainaa (@london_school_of_handbalance_), and Manuele D’aquino (@manu_d93_), as well as calisthenic athletes Simon Ata (@simonsterstrength), Sondre Berg (@sondre_berg), and Daniel Vadnal (@fitnessfaqs).
Miles now coaches people privately in all areas of their Yoga practice, from developing general strength and flexibility to back bending, but most prominently, handstands and inversions. Miles works to integrate all of these protocols and methods to generate a way of training and coaching that enables his students to empower their practice towards achieving their goals intelligently and progressively.
Matt Gasmovic
Matt was born and raised in South Carolina and graduated from the College of Charleston and the University of South Carolina with a BS and MBA in International Business. After schooling, Matt worked in the corporate business world, selling software for close to seven years before moving to Colorado. With a business background and a desire to find a true passion, Matt and his partner Tam took over the operation of SOL 19 in 2018. While managing the operations side of the studio, Matt has pursued his own yoga training, plant medicine facilitation, and certification in healing modalities, including the art of holding space, shamanic traditions and breathwork. Matt’s teachers include Nancy Wunderlich, Justin Townsend, Anahata Ananda, Shonagh Home, and Hanakia Zedek. Matt credits all of these tools and his teachers for helping him personally step into his true purpose while overcoming fears and doubts.
Currently, Matt teaches breathwork classes weekly at SOL 19, hosts breath ceremonies every couple of months, and facilitates two to three immersive yoga and breathwork retreats every year. Additionally, Matt works with clients one-on-one in person and via Zoom over a three-month program that combines breath and energy practices with the goal of shedding layers to reveal the true authentic self at our core.
