Shambala is located in Skinnskatteberg, central Sweden, about 2,5 hours northwest of Stockholm.
Fly into Stockholm Arlanda (ARN) or Stockholm Vasteras (VST). Both airports connect to Skinnskatteberg by train.
Take SJ train to Skinnskatteberg station, just 5 minutes from Shambala. Book at sj.se and notify us 48 hours ahead.
Free pickup service between 3-6 PM for retreat arrivals. Driving? Navigate to Borntorpet 1, parking available on-site.
Arrive to warm tea, your room, and the sounds of the Swedish forest. First meal is dinner, check-in and check-out at 15:00.

We understand that life can be unpredictable, and if something unexpected comes up, we truly want to support you as best we can. At the same time, as a small business, we need to honor the sustainability of our work and are therefore unable to offer refunds close to the retreat start date.
• Cancel up to 3 months before arrival and receive a full refund.
• Cancel up to 14 days before arrival and receive a 70% refund.
• Cancel up to 6 days before arrival and receive a 50% refund.
• If you cancel 5 days or fewer before arrival, the retreat fee is non-refundable.
We warmly recommend arranging travel insurance to cover any unforeseen circumstances.
At Shambala, beyond being a retreat space, we cultivate a way of living deeply rooted in the yogic values of simplicity, non-attachment, contentment, and communion with nature. Rather than luxury, what we offer is intimacy and a sense of belonging. Therefore, our accommodations are simple and mostly shared, with a variety of twin rooms, triple rooms, and glamping tents.
The guiding ethos is one of community and sustainability, creating a vibe that is understated, modest, welcoming, and easy. If you do feel a strong need for a single room, you can write to us. A single room may be available for an additional fee.
All accommodation options have access to shared showers and bathrooms.
The journey from Arlanda to Shambala (Skinnskatteberg Station) takes around 3 hours and is simple to plan. You can search for and purchase tickets at www.sj.se
Please note that the full train schedule is usually available only 2–3 weeks before your intended travel date, so there’s no need to book earlier than that. There are several route options to choose from.
As there are no direct trains, you’ll need to take a combination of trains and/or buses. Once you arrive at Skinnskatteberg Station, we’ll pick you up, and then it’s just a 7-minute drive to Shambala.
Yes! We offer free pick-up and drop-off service from the local train station: Skinnskatteberg Station.
To arrange a pick-up, please email us your arrival time at least 48 hours before your arrival, and someone from our team will be there to welcome you. The drive from the station to Shambala is only 5 minutes.
We also offer free drop-off back to the station at the end of the retreat. One day before your retreat ends, our team will write a drop-off timetable on the whiteboard, where all guests can add their departure times. This way, someone from our team will be ready to drive you on the departure day, whenever you need to go.
We love children and would truly love to be able to host parents with young kids.
However, we’ve found that having young children on site can make it challenging to maintain the peaceful retreat atmosphere that many of our guests seek and deeply value.
For this reason, unless otherwise agreed, our retreats are intended for adults and youth aged 12 and above.
Our kitchen is mostly vegan, occasionally vegetarian, and we aim to source organic and locally grown ingredients as much as possible.
Our meals are designed to avoid the most common allergens. That said, please let us know in advance if you have any food allergies or specific dietary needs, and we’ll take them into account when planning the menu.
For guests with multiple allergies, we offer a simple daily meal option of steamed vegetables and boiled rice.
While we aim to keep our kitchen as gluten-free as possible, trace amounts of gluten may still be present. Our meals are generally suitable for those with gluten intolerance, but we cannot guarantee the absence of cross-contamination for guests with celiac disease.
Breakfast is eaten in silence, and dormitory quiet hours begin at 22:00. Beyond that, retreats vary: some include extended periods of noble silence, while others are more social. Check your specific retreat details.
We love animals, but as some guests have allergies, pets are not permitted inside the buildings. For this reason, we discourage guests from bringing animals. In exceptional cases, and depending on the animal’s breed and size, please reach out in advance so we can see if any arrangements are possible.
Massage, bodywork, and other treatments are often available during retreats. Throughout most of the summer, we have therapists on site, but we recommend checking our treatment page to confirm availability during your stay. As sessions tend to fill up quickly, we encourage booking in advance. Please navigate to the treatment page on our website menu for more information.
Comfortable yoga clothing, a warm layer for the evenings, earplugs and an eye mask for the bright summer mornings, sturdy shoes for forest walks, and a journal if you enjoy writing. Yoga mats and props are provided. Swimwear for the sauna is optional. We will send a full packing list after booking.
By default, your booking will include the rental of sheets, pillow case and towels. If you wish to help Shambala with sustainability, you could bring your own linen set and we will reduce 200 sek from your booking. Please look at your cart check out for steps on how to do this.
While Wi-Fi is available in designated areas, we encourage a digital detox during your stay. Many of our guests find that disconnecting from screens is a very valuable part of the retreat experience.
Most of our retreats welcome all levels, from complete beginners to experienced practitioners. Check the individual retreat description for specific prerequisites.
Absolutely! The majority of our guests come solo. Retreats are designed to foster connection, and you’ll quickly feel part of the community. It’s one of the best ways to experience Shambala.

Unless otherwise stated by the teacher, check in and check out are at 3pm. The first meal after check-in is dinner at 19h and the last meal before check-out is at 1.30pm.
