Description
Seva Guest: Live, Rest & Serve
Come and live inside the rhythm of Shambala for two weeks or more. In the spirit of seva (selfless service), you offer around 1.5 gentle hours a day to the life of the community, and the rest of your time is entirely your own: hike, swim in the lake, take a daily sauna and yoga class, and belong to the place without needing to join a retreat. A deeper, slower way to experience Shambala.
A RETREAT FOR YOU
Rest, Belong & Serve
Some stays are about stepping away. A Seva Stay is about stepping in, into the daily life of Shambala, and staying long enough to feel like you belong as part of the community, whilst at the same time having a lot of time to rest.
The Seva Guest experience is for those who want more than a few nights of rest. Over two weeks or more, you become part of the rhythm of the place: the shared meals, the morning practice, the sauna at dusk, the slow evenings by the fire. Not a visitor passing through, but a familiar face who knows the paths, the people, and their own quiet corner of the forest.
At the centre of it is seva, the practice of selfless service. For around an hour and a half each day, you offer your hands to the life of the community: a little help in the kitchen, care for the gardens, tending the spaces we all share. Offered without hurry, these simple tasks become a form of meditation, and a way of giving that fills you and connects you to others. The rest of your day is entirely your own.
You are held here the same way our guests are: nourishing vegan meals prepared for you, a daily yoga class if you wish it, the lake and the sauna, and the freedom to rest as deeply as you need. What you add is presence, and a willingness to contribute, however small, to something shared.
For many, this is the truest way to experience Shambala. Long enough to soften. Woven into the community rather than watching from outside. And carried home not just as a rest, but as a quiet shift in how it feels to give and live in community.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the seva contribution?
Around 1.5 hours a day of light, shared tasks, a little help in the kitchen, tending the gardens, caring for the spaces we all share. Offered in the spirit of seva (selfless service), without hurry. The rest of your day is entirely your own.
How is this different from a Just Be stay?
Just Be is a short guest stay, from as little as two nights. A Seva Stay is a longer, two-week-minimum immersion where you become part of the community rhythm, offering a gentle daily contribution. In return, you enjoy a lower daily rate and a deeper sense of belonging than a pure guest stay allows.
How do I get to Shambala?
The journey from Arlanda to Shambala (Skinnskatteberg Station) takes around 3 hours and is quite straightforward. You can search for and purchase tickets at www.sj.se.
Please note that the full train schedule is usually available only 2–3 weeks before your intended travel date, so there’s no need to book earlier than that. There are several route options.
As there are no direct trains, you’ll need to take a combination of trains and/or buses. Once you arrive at Skinnskatteberg Station, we’ll pick you up, it’s just a 7-minute drive to Shambala.
What should I bring?
Comfortable yoga clothing, a warm layer for the evenings, earplugs and an eye mask for the bright summer mornings, sturdy shoes for forest walks, and a journal if you enjoy writing. Yoga mats and props are provided. Swimwear for the sauna is optional. We’ll send a full packing list after booking.
Can you accommodate dietary requirements?
Our kitchen is designed to avoid the most common allergens. That said, please let us know in advance if you have any food allergies or specific dietary needs, and we’ll take them into account when planning the menu.
For guests with multiple allergies, we offer a simple daily meal option of steamed vegetables and boiled rice.
While we aim to keep our kitchen as gluten-free as possible, trace amounts of gluten may still be present. Our meals are generally suitable for those with gluten intolerance, but we cannot guarantee the absence of cross-contamination for guests with celiac disease.
What is the accommodation like?
You’ll settle into your own private Soulpad canvas glamping bell tent in our lakeside village, or a comfortable shared twin room in the house when available.
If you do feel a strong need for a single room, you can write to us. A single room may be available for an additional fee.
All accommodation options have access to shared showers and bathrooms.
What is your policy on children?
We love children and would truly love to be able to host parents with young kids.
However, we’ve found that having young children on site can make it challenging to maintain the peaceful retreat atmosphere that many of our guests seek and deeply value.
For this reason, unless otherwise agreed, our retreats are intended for adults and youth aged 12 and above.
Can I bring my pet?
We love animals, but as some guests have allergies, we’re unable to allow animals inside the buildings. For this reason, we kindly discourage guests from bringing their pets.
