A RETREAT FOR YOU

The Spirit of the Retreat

Where better to embrace Winter than Sweden? Big skies, dense forests, lakes, sauna culture and of course – hygge. Winter is the time for stillness, reflection & dreaming. And this transformative retreat will give you space for all of these.

Much of our lives are cocooned, wrapped up, separated. We live near each other & yet still feel alone. Separate. Disconnected.

This retreat is a calling back: Back to connection. Back to your essence. Back to your true nature. This is your rewilding.

What to expect

This retreat will try to strike the balance between guiding you and allowing you to find your own way. Your “Dao” in Taoist philosophy. There is time to nap, read, explore the local area, join a workshop or have a massage. All sessions are optional.

You’re encouraged to listen to yourself rather than blindly follow a programme.

Session span movement to shift things – ideas, energy, obstacles – as well as sauna rituals, open sauna, meditation and breathwork. There’ll be opportunity to challenge – using cold water perhaps. And there’ll be time to reflect & rest.

Alongside all of this is time to come together, share & witness through Circle, meals & ample time along the way. It wouldn’t be a rewilding without time in nature and believe us – this is the place for it.

YOUR GUIDE

Lucy Wright – Make + Move

Lucy is happiest outside with her bare feet on the ground and water nearby. She has been holding retreats since 2018, borne from a desire within herself for more depth and less haste. She created Make+Move to help others connect more deeply with themselves, nature and each other.

She is a rewilding guide, teaches yoga, breathwork, cold water therapy and is also a Sauna Master, seeing all of these as vehicles to find connection. Her classes – whatever the discipline – are an embodied experience. Lucy’s yoga blends vinyasa, Katonah, somatics, restorative and natural movement, taking inspiration from great nature, Taoism and Traditional Chinese Medicine.

She teaches regularly – irl and online – and her favourite things are pizza, chatting and movement with music.

YOUR GUIDE

Nick Tettersell

Nick will be holding sauna rituals & offering massages on this retreat.

Nick’s connection to nature is well embedded. Kayaking, canoeing & surfing around the UK ignited a lifelong affinity with the water and a career as a tree surgeon & gardener established a foundation of respect & knowledge for the natural world.

Since qualifying as a massage therapist more than 10 years ago he has immersed himself in a whole new world of wellbeing practices & beliefs, from Ayurvedic philosophy to meditation, conscious breathwork & contrast therapies. This path & his watery affinity led him to discover sauna.

Over the last few years Nick has taken all of his previous experiences to the sauna. Becoming the UK’s Best Sauna Practitioner (UK Sauna Society 2025), guiding sauna rituals, blessings and ceremonies.

He guides intuitively from the heart using handmade whisks & homemade scrubs that he has foraged from the land. Always inspired by & working with nature.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION

Frequently Asked Questions

The journey from Arlanda to Shambala (Skinnskatteberg Station) takes around 3 hours and is quite straightforward. You can search for and purchase tickets at www.sj.se.

Please note that the full train schedule is usually available only 2–3 weeks before your intended travel date, so there’s no need to book earlier than that. There are several route options.

As there are no direct trains, you’ll need to take a combination of trains and/or buses. Once you arrive at Skinnskatteberg Station, we’ll pick you up, and then it’s just a 7-minute drive to Shambala.

Comfortable yoga clothing, a warm layer for the evenings, earplugs and an eye mask for the bright summer mornings, sturdy shoes for forest walks, and a journal if you enjoy writing. Yoga mats and props are provided. Swimwear for the sauna is optional. We’ll send a full packing list after booking.

Our kitchen is designed to avoid the most common allergens. That said, please let us know in advance if you have any food allergies or specific dietary needs, and we’ll take them into account when planning the menu.

For guests with multiple allergies, we offer a simple daily meal option of steamed vegetables and boiled rice.

While we aim to keep our kitchen as gluten-free as possible, trace amounts of gluten may still be present. Our meals are generally suitable for those with gluten intolerance, but we cannot guarantee the absence of cross-contamination for guests with celiac disease.

At Shambala, beyond being a retreat space, we cultivate a way of living deeply rooted in the yogic values of simplicity, presence, non-attachment, contentment, and communion with nature. Rather than luxury, what we offer is intimacy and a sense of belonging. Therefore, our accommodations are simple and mostly shared, with a variety of twin rooms, triple rooms, and glamping tents.

The guiding ethos is one of community and sustainability, creating a vibe that is understated, modest, welcoming, and easy. If you do feel a strong need for a single room, you can write to us. A single room may be available for an additional fee.

All accommodation options have access to shared showers and bathrooms.

We love children and would truly love to be able to host parents with young kids.

However, we’ve found that having young children on site can make it challenging to maintain the peaceful retreat atmosphere that many of our guests seek and deeply value.

For this reason, unless otherwise agreed, our retreats are intended for adults and youth aged 12 and above.

We love animals, but as some guests have allergies, we’re unable to allow animals inside the buildings. For this reason, we kindly discourage guests from bringing their pets.
