A RETREAT FOR YOU

The Essence

Over our four days together we will explore Traditional Tantra; the celebration of ourselves as Divine. We will engage in practices of gentle movement, self-recognition and relaxation.

We will re-cognize our Divine nature through a variety of traditional pujas (rituals); japa (Goddess mantra), nyāsa (embodying divine awareness), and ārati (fire ritual to dissolve our shadows). On our final evening we will share a traditional chakra puja integrating the mind and body to experience ourselves and each other as Divine.

The daily āsana practice emphasizes sensitivity, intuitive relaxation, and inner balance. The body is approached as the blissful expression of the Divine, something to be celebrated and playfully harmonized.

Satsaṅga (discussions) explore ahaṁkāra (identity) and dharma (the true self) to answer the questions “who am I,” “why am I here?” Inquiry is based in practices and conversation, allowing insight to arise both individually and within the group.

The retreat also includes an introduction to Ayurvedic massage—a skill you will learn and receive—designed to support vitality and optimize the body.

Evenings are devoted to ritual, sauna, and time around the fire to support connection and integration. Spacious breaks throughout the schedule allow time for rest, reflection, and digestion on all levels.

This retreat is suited for practitioners wishing to explore Tantra as an integrated path of yoga, meditation, and self/life inquiry.

YOUR GUIDE

Whitney Wheelock

My parents met in an esoteric spiritual community led by my grandmother, while also working as lawyers advocating for the rights of women and children. I grew up in the confluence of inner inquiry and community responsibility.

After working at the Federal Reserve Bank, managing at an international wine company, and living a successful modern life—I found myself deeply unfulfilled. Following the divorce from my wife at 26, I left America to play semi-professional football (soccer) in Germany, and eventually continued on to Asia in search of answers to my questions about life.

In 2006, a Tantra Yoga class in Thailand changed the course of my life. I began a one-month immersion which evolved into a decade of study, practice, and sharing the Kaula Trika Tantra tradition.

My life is now focused on authentic, honest, and playful celebration of life.

GUEST EXPERIENCES

“The teachings here—rooted in the Kaula Trika Tantra tradition—are challenging, but in the best way. They go far beyond surface-level spirituality and invite a kind of honest, transformative inquiry that’s rare to find. The yoga asana system supports not just the body, but the entire path of inner transformation.”

I feel completely recharged, immensely inspired, focussed on what really matters, and connected to myself and the world, [in a way] I have rarely felt during my entire life.”

“In the first conversation with Whitney I had no more doubts about attending this program. The biggest revelation I had? There is nowhere to go, nothing more I need to be, nothing I need to do better. I feel inspired, energised and ready to play. After this experience I’m looking forward to experiencing all of existence. I feel playful with everything in life, even the hardest things.”

PRACTICAL INFORMATION

Frequently Asked Questions

The journey from Arlanda to Shambala (Skinnskatteberg Station) takes around 3 hours and is quite straightforward. You can search for and purchase tickets at www.sj.se.

Please note that the full train schedule is usually available only 2–3 weeks before your intended travel date, so there’s no need to book earlier than that. There are several route options.

As there are no direct trains, you’ll need to take a combination of trains and/or buses. Once you arrive at Skinnskatteberg Station, we’ll pick you up — it’s just a 7-minute drive to Shambala.

Comfortable yoga clothing, a warm layer for the evenings, earplugs and an eye mask for the bright summer mornings, sturdy shoes for forest walks, and a journal if you enjoy writing. Yoga mats and props are provided. Swimwear for the sauna is optional. We’ll send a full packing list after booking.

Our kitchen is designed to avoid the most common allergens. That said, please let us know in advance if you have any food allergies or specific dietary needs, and we’ll take them into account when planning the menu.

For guests with multiple allergies, we offer a simple daily meal option of steamed vegetables and boiled rice.

While we aim to keep our kitchen as gluten-free as possible, trace amounts of gluten may still be present. Our meals are generally suitable for those with gluten intolerance, but we cannot guarantee the absence of cross-contamination for guests with celiac disease.

At Shambala, beyond being a retreat space, we cultivate a way of living deeply rooted in the yogic values of simplicity, presence, non-attachment, contentment, and communion with nature. Rather than luxury, what we offer is intimacy and a sense of belonging. Therefore, our accommodations are simple and mostly shared, with a variety of twin rooms, triple rooms, and glamping tents.

The guiding ethos is one of community and sustainability, creating a vibe that is understated, modest, welcoming, and easy. If you do feel a strong need for a single room, you can write to us. A single room may be available for an additional fee.

All accommodation options have access to shared showers and bathrooms.

We love children and would truly love to be able to host parents with young kids.

However, we’ve found that having young children on site can make it challenging to maintain the peaceful retreat atmosphere that many of our guests seek and deeply value.

For this reason, unless otherwise agreed, our retreats are intended for adults and youth aged 12 and above.

We love animals, but as some guests have allergies, we’re unable to allow animals inside the buildings. For this reason, we kindly discourage guests from bringing their pets.
