A RETREAT FOR YOU

The Spirit of the Retreat

The Sun is the basis of all life on this planet, and Suriya Kriya is an ancient and time-tested hatha yoga practice that is about harnessing the sun and fire within us. “Surya” means “sun” and “kriya” means “inner energy process.” In this practice, the movements are synchronized with the breath, through which you attain a state of inner balance and harmony.

Traditionally available only to select groups of yogis, Surya Kriya is now being offered by Sadhguru as a comprehensive spiritual practice, ideal for the hectic pace of today’s world.

We will also include the advanced Yogasanas series of Sarvangasana, known as the queen of asanas (postures). This can be added to the Surya Kriya practice, or to the basic Yogasanas sequence for Isha practitioners who wish to learn it.
No previous experience of yoga is required.

Together with the yoga of the sun, we will also dive into the yoga of sound. Through voice-based meditations and sound journeys, we invite the group to experience sound and music through the lens of Nada Yoga (the yoga of sound). The sound journeys will draw from spiritual and shamanistic traditions, ranging from Native American traditions to South Indian rhythms and Norse Viking vibrations.

Nature, Sound & Connection

Connect with Nordic nature through sound journeys, sauna sessions, socializing, and stories shared around the bonfire.

I had an excellent experience with the yoga courses taught by Rav. Instructions were clear and the yoga is an excellent way to condition and prepare the body for meditation. The routines are learned in such a way that they can be done independently, and at one's own pace and breath. In this way, one has the routine available at any time for the rest of one's life.

YOUR GUIDE

Rav Sira

Rav Sira comes from a family of artists in Oslo. From an early age, music, football, and mountain walks became an integral part of his life. He chose to pursue music full-time and explored different traditions across countries such as Brazil, the Netherlands, Scotland, Mozambique, Karasjok, and India.

Although Rav had an early interest in yoga, it wasn’t until he encountered Sadhguru’s teachings and began practicing Isha Hatha Yoga that a new world opened up for him. Through this, he experienced how yoga can elevate one’s balance and competence in all aspects of life, allowing him to find greater harmony within himself and with the world around him.

In 2021, Rav traveled to the Isha Yoga Center in Coimbatore, India, to complete the 21-week Hatha Yoga Teacher Training program designed by Sadhguru. This training equipped him to transmit Classical Hatha Yoga in its purest form, as it has been passed down for thousands of years.

Read more about his training in this article from Isha.

YOUR GUIDE

Lennart Hansen

Lennart Hansen is a Norwegian yogi, musician, and audio engineer with over 25 years of experience in both modern and traditional music from West Africa, the Americas, India, and Norway. With a university background in psychology and audio engineering, he brings both human insight and technical depth into his work with sound and meditation.

Since 2007, he has explored yoga, meditation, and the inner sciences in depth, and has been committed to Sadhguru’s yoga and sadhana since 2012. This includes performing concerts with Sounds of Isha in India and Europe. His approach is deeply experiential and anthropological, weaving together elements from diverse musical and spiritual traditions, where sound becomes a tool for meditation, emotional release, and inner transformation.

GUEST EXPERIENCES

Words from Past Retreats

“Yogafyr conveys classical hatha yoga with integrity. Here you get the essence of yoga, as it has been practiced since the dawn of yoga without modern fads.
With a background from the Isha Foundation and their extensive teacher training, you are in good hands here. Interested in yoga and ready for only the best, look no further. Highly recommended.”

Highly recommended!”

“Personally, I have always had big questions and been open, but did not have the means to control this aspect of myself. I was attracted to and practiced “Western yoga” before Sadhguru came my way. Isha Hatha Yoga offers some absolutely exceptional tools and processes for inner health and well-being.

This is knowledge I feel privileged to have learned from Rav. He is a skilled teacher, and it is clear that this is his passion. These processes are powerful, and it is admirable that he makes himself available to help others on their path.

Surya Kriya has changed my quality of life considerably. I feel more balanced, have more stable energy, am more aware and in control of my body and mind, and feel more in touch with life. Not least, it has taken my meditative aspect to new possibilities. This is something I recommend to anyone who is curious.”

PRACTICAL INFORMATION

Frequently Asked Questions

The journey from Arlanda to Shambala (Skinnskatteberg Station) takes around 3 hours and is quite straightforward. You can search for and purchase tickets at www.sj.se.

Please note that the full train schedule is usually available only 2–3 weeks before your intended travel date, so there’s no need to book earlier than that. There are several route options.

As there are no direct trains, you’ll need to take a combination of trains and/or buses. Once you arrive at Skinnskatteberg Station, we’ll pick you up — it’s just a 7-minute drive to Shambala.

Comfortable yoga clothing, a warm layer for the evenings, earplugs and an eye mask for the bright summer mornings, sturdy shoes for forest walks, and a journal if you enjoy writing. Yoga mats and props are provided. Swimwear for the sauna is optional. We’ll send a full packing list after booking.

Our kitchen is designed to avoid the most common allergens. That said, please let us know in advance if you have any food allergies or specific dietary needs, and we’ll take them into account when planning the menu.

For guests with multiple allergies, we offer a simple daily meal option of steamed vegetables and boiled rice.

While we aim to keep our kitchen as gluten-free as possible, trace amounts of gluten may still be present. Our meals are generally suitable for those with gluten intolerance, but we cannot guarantee the absence of cross-contamination for guests with celiac disease.

At Shambala, beyond being a retreat space, we cultivate a way of living deeply rooted in the yogic values of simplicity, presence, non-attachment, contentment, and communion with nature. Rather than luxury, what we offer is intimacy and a sense of belonging. Therefore, our accommodations are simple and mostly shared, with a variety of twin rooms, triple rooms, and glamping tents.

The guiding ethos is one of community and sustainability, creating a vibe that is understated, modest, welcoming, and easy. If you do feel a strong need for a single room, you can write to us. A single room may be available for an additional fee.

All accommodation options have access to shared showers and bathrooms.

We love children and would truly love to be able to host parents with young kids.

However, we’ve found that having young children on site can make it challenging to maintain the peaceful retreat atmosphere that many of our guests seek and deeply value.

For this reason, unless otherwise agreed, our retreats are intended for adults and youth aged 12 and above.

We love animals, but as some guests have allergies, we’re unable to allow animals inside the buildings. For this reason, we kindly discourage guests from bringing their pets.
